A Brief Guide to the UKCA mark

What is the UKCA mark?

The UKCA (UK Conformity Assessed) is the new conformity assessment mark for products placed on the market in Great Britain (England, Scotland, and Wales) to show they are compliant with requirements in legislation applying in GB. The UKCA mark replaces the CE mark used before the UK left the European Union.

When will the UKCA be mandatory?

To allow businesses time to adjust, the original deadline of the 31st of December 2023 was extended by the government to the 31st of December 2024.

What products does the UKCA apply to?

Products that currently require the CE marking will need the UKCA marking.

For a complete list of the products that will require the UKCA mark visit this page: www.gov.uk/guidance/using-the-ukca-marking

How do I use the UKCA mark?

In most cases, you must apply the UKCA marking to the product itself or the packaging. The UKCA marking must be clearly visible, legible, and indelible when you affix it to the product. It may sometimes be placed on the manuals or other supporting literature, but this will depend on the specific regulations that apply to the product.

In order for manufacturers to have a little more time to adapt their products to the new UKCA mark the government intends to introduce legislation enabling the UKCA marking to be placed on a label affixed to the product or on a document accompanying the product until 11 pm on 31 December 2027.

What technical documentation do I need to comply with the UKCA mark?

You must have a UKCA Declaration of Conformity in accordance with the current GB legislation, and technical details for the product must be prepared and made available for the UK market surveillance authorities. This information must be made available by a person or business registered in the UK.
